The Aesthetic Business Masters Awards are judged by people who know this industry from the inside. Not observers, but practitioners, founders, strategists, and educators who have built businesses, led teams, navigated regulation, and sat across the table from clinic owners working through the same challenges you are. This series introduces you to the people behind the scorecard, so you know exactly who’s reading your submission and what they’ll be looking for.
Meet: April Dunn

April Dunn is the kind of aesthetic nurse who didn’t stop at building one clinic. She built the clinic, then the technology, then the clinical training role, and kept going.
April is the Owner of Platinum By April, an aesthetic skin clinic in Canberra that has grown from a sole practitioner operation into a multi-clinician practice staffed by Registered Nurses and Dermal Therapists. The clinic specialises in advanced skin treatments and cosmetic injectables, with a strong emphasis on natural results, patient safety, and ethical practice. Platinum by April’s mission centres on delivering personalised treatment plans in an environment where the highest standards of integrity and professionalism are non-negotiable.
Beyond the clinic, April is the Founder of Nurses Choice, an Australian skincare and LED light-therapy brand that makes professional-grade skin technology accessible for at-home use. The range includes LED face masks, neck and decolletage devices, and a hyaluronic acid serum, all developed with a clinical mindset. Nurses Choice has expanded into wholesale distribution, with stockists across the country.

April also holds a clinical training role with Merz Aesthetics, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies in the aesthetic medicine space. April’s involvement as a clinical trainer speaks to the calibre of her technical knowledge and her ability to educate other practitioners to a high standard. She also holds a residency at Alcheme Aesthetics, further extending her clinical footprint.
What makes April Dunn stand out is the breadth of her involvement across the industry. Beyond the treatment room, she’s training practitioners, developing products, and building businesses, all while maintaining the clinical standards expected of a Registered Nurse. That combination of hands-on practice, commercial thinking, and educator credibility is exactly what the ABM judging panel benefits from.
As a judge for the Aesthetic Business Masters Awards, April wants clinic owners to think about what they’re building beyond the chair. She’s scaled from a solo practice to a multi-clinician clinic owner, launched a product line, and taken on a clinical training role with a global pharmaceutical company, all while maintaining her registration and clinical standards. Her message is that diversification isn’t about doing more for the sake of it. It’s about recognising where your clinical expertise creates value outside the treatment room and having the discipline to pursue it without compromising the standards that got you there.
Entrants can expect her to assess submissions with both clinical rigour and commercial awareness.
