Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Also known as laser resurfacing, laser skin rejuvenation is a type of photo-rejuvenation treatment that promotes a brighter, healthier and younger looking complexion. There are two different types of lasers – Ablative which is a more intense laser and removes thin layers of older, damaged skin – and Non-Ablative which stimulates the body’s natural function of producing collagen and reduces wrinkles, pigmentation, age spots, some scars, stretch marks, sun damage and uneven skin tone. It can also tighten and provide smoother skin.

Fractional lasers are different to other lasers in that they target a much smaller and more specific area. They do not damage surrounding areas and usually have a smaller recovery time.

It is essential to see an experienced and suitably trained doctor or practitioner for laser resurfacing. Depending on what results you want will affect which laser and what strength will suit you. A fully qualified practitioner will have minimise your risk of any side effects.

THE PROCEDURE

The aesthetician projects a laser light onto the area/s being targeted. The energy it releases is absorbed by the skin, heating up the tired cells, and breaking them down into so that the body metabolises them.

You should be given Vaseline or soothing ointments to help calm and heal the skin after the treatment. You should not use makeup or other products on your skin until it has fully healed.

FAQ

Q. Are there any side effects?
A. Ablative lasers are more invasive, removing the top layer of your skin, and your skin will appear red after treatment. This can last up to several days and you may need time off work to recover. Less experienced practitioners may increase your risk of burns.

Non-Ablative lasers have minimal side effects but can include swelling, redness, itching, and/or lighter skin.
