The Aesthetic Business Masters Awards are judged by people who know this industry from the inside. Not observers, but practitioners, founders, strategists, and educators who have built businesses, led teams, navigated regulation, and sat across the table from clinic owners working through the same challenges you are. This series introduces you to the people behind the scorecard, so you know exactly who’s reading your submission and what they’ll be looking for.
Meet: Emma Hobson
When Beauty Directory named Emma Hobson one of Australia’s ten most influential people in the aesthetics and beauty industry, it wasn’t for one thing. It was for three decades of showing up across every corner of the sector and making each one better than she found it.
Emma has spent 35 years watching aesthetic businesses grow, and she can usually spot the ceiling within the first conversation. The clinics that stall aren’t lacking ambition or clinical skill. They’re lacking the strategic layer underneath: the leadership alignment, the operational clarity, and the willingness to invest in the business infrastructure that supports scale rather than just adding more appointments to the diary. Growth without strategy isn’t scaling. It’s just getting busier.
Emma is an internationally recognised industry strategist, consultant, and keynote speaker with global experience across APAC, Europe, and the United States. As former Education Director for The International Dermal Institute and Dermalogica (APAC), she led one of the company’s most awarded departments, overseeing education strategy and brand representation across Australia, New Zealand, and distributor markets throughout Asia. She managed a team of 30+ professionals and pioneered blended learning platforms that set new benchmarks in professional skincare education.
Her career spans business ownership, spa directorship, and corporate leadership. She has worked with distributors, CEOs, franchise groups, and global brand leaders, guiding them through growth, repositioning, and market expansion. That range of experience gives her a rare ability to quickly diagnose barriers, identify opportunities, and design strategies that work across sales, education, operations, and leadership.
Emma has been inducted into the ABIA Industry Hall of Fame and received a Lifetime Achievement Award. She is a founding board member of ABIC (The Aesthetic Beauty Industry Council), a contributor to the Beauty Industry Reference Group (DESBT), and co-author of Rise Above, Beyond Ordinary. Her media profile includes features in Vogue, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, and Body and Soul.
Today, through Emma Hobson Consulting, she partners with organisations seeking strategic direction, growth acceleration, and leadership alignment. Her approach is pragmatic and entrepreneurial, grounded in the reality of what it takes to scale while maintaining quality, consistency, and team capability.
As a judge for the Aesthetic Business Masters Awards, Emma brings a lens shaped by decades spent watching businesses at every stage of growth. She has seen what separates those who scale well from those who stall. Entrants should expect her to look beyond surface-level results and assess the strategic thinking, leadership depth, and operational strength behind the numbers.
